// Relax deeply

Experiences and habits influence our mind and body. Some of these can throw us off balance. Shiatsu is a way to restore this balance, to experience deep relaxation and to mobilise our self-healing powers.

Shiatsu is a holistic form of bodywork that has its origins in the Japanese art of healing. Today, Shiatsu is a recognised form of manual whole-body treatment that is mainly performed with the fingers. It is also described as a Japanese version of acupressure. The entire body is treated in order to reduce tension and stress, activate the body’s self-healing powers and improve well-being.

// What effect does Shiatsu have?

Shiatsu provides relaxation in different areas of the body (shoulder girdle, back and pelvic muscles), releases existing blockages and balances the flow of energy. The treatment mobilises and stretches fasciae, muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. The relaxing effect can have a positive influence on the immune system and the autonomic nervous system. Improvements can be achieved for:

  • tension
  • joint complaints
  • headaches / migraine
  • stress, restlessness, panic states
  • exhaustion
  • digestive problems
  • menstrual problems
  • sleep disorders

Shiatsu treatment is recommended even without specific symptoms. It can be used preventively to strengthen your own well-being and support change processes.

// How does Shiatsu relate to Western medicine?

Shiatsu is a holistic complementary bodywork that is not a substitute for medical, psychiatric or psycho-therapeutic treatment. Western medical therapies can be accompanied and supported by Shiatsu after consultation with the attending physician.

// How does the treatment work?

After a consultation in which acute complaints and issues are clarified, the shiatsu treatment is carried out on a mat on the floor. Shiatsu cushions and blankets support a relaxed lying position during the treatment. In addition to the mobilisation (rotations, stretches, mobilisation and tapping techniques) of individual parts of the body, some of the approximately 400 acupuncture points are worked on with gentle pressure from the fingers, balls of the hands, elbows or knees. After the treatment, there is time for a moment of rest and a brief follow-up discussion.

// How long does a treatment take?

A treatment lasts approx. 60 minutes. For first appointments, please allow more time for an introductory meeting (approx. 90 minutes).

// What do I bring to a treatment?

Shiatsu is practised on clothed clients. Please bring comfortable casual clothing that allows movement and socks.

// Is there anything I need to consider before the treatment?

You should take a break from eating for about two hours before the treatment or only eat easily digestible food.

// I am pregnant – can I come for a Shiatsu treatment?

Shiatsu can be used to support women from the time they wish to have children to the postnatal period. The bodywork supports the connection between mother and child from the very beginning and can help with pregnancy complaints.
